Former Obama Advisor: President’s Claim of No Domestic Spying Program ‘Ridiculous’

When President Barack Obama went on “The Tonight Show” Tuesday and said America has no domestic spying program, he didn’t convince one of his most ardent supporters — his own former green jobs adviser Van Jones.

“If we don’t have one now, I would hate to see us with one,” Jones said Wednesday on CNN’s “The Lead with Jake Tapper.”

    The semantics is annoying.

Even more grating, though, is Obama’s explicit avowal and defense of the foreign surveillance. We are collecting everyone else’s data (and of course data of Americans abroad). That is not okay. And as James Fallows has predicted, it will mean foreign suspicion of not only the U.S. gov’t, but surveillance-cooperative major U.S. tech firms as well (i.e. every firm but Twitter).

So, all the international good graces Obama received from merely replacing Bush will be flushed down the national-security-state abyss.

Really Mr president? Then how come the NSA is part of the Department of Justice special operations? The NSA feeds the data to law enforcement. Amazing how they do that without looking at citizens data…

So in other words: no we are not spying on you NOW, we are merely keeping all the information we can collect on you so that if we want we can RETROACTIVELY spy on you.

I think a better way of phrasing it is ‘We are spying on you now, we’re just going to call it something else.’ Essentially he’s using Orwellian double-speak and defining words in ways that people would not define them in normal usage. In other words, he’s lying.

“We don’t have a domestic spying program,” he said. “What we do have are some mechanisms where we can track a phone number or an email address that we know is connected to some sort of terrorist threat.”

We don’t have a torture program, Bush told us; what we do have, Bush said, are a series of enhanced interrogation techniques

Yes we do President Obama, and after James Clapper lied to Congress and then James Snoden “Blew The Whistle” on NSA’s and other spy programs that are grossly unconstitutional and not within the parameters of our Bill of Rights. We know that James Clapper lied to Congress and he finally had to admit it. How long will you continue to lie to the American people about the absence of one of the most sophisticated Domestic and International eavesdropping programs ever known to exist in the World’s history. Quit insulting our intelligence.

Nope, we have an entire domestic spying SYSTEM, that’s not the same,

“We don’t have a domestic spying program,” he said.

      Zoom!
      What was that?!
That was the last speck of his credibility flying out the window.

Immense vanity. Greed. No morals. What always astounds me is that there is still intelligence. Anyone would think those who wished to be a figurehead for and purportedly run a country were just psychopaths…oh…http://disinfo.com/2013/08/obama-says-there-is-no-domestic-spying-program/

This mess is already killing the cloud. Nobody wants to remotely host anything when they find out that their security is pre-compromised by design. The laughable excuse about “national security” isn’t assuaging the fears of anyone except paid trolls and astroturfers…. Real humans instinctively realize that right now, the single greatest threat to national security IS the massive collection of information being hoarded by these short-sighted fools.  http://disinfo.com/2013/08/the-fbi-can-remotely-activate-the-microphone-in-your-android-phone/

“We don’t have a domestic surveillance program,” “We cut the national deficit in half,” [when he DOUBLED it to 17 trillions] Just of two of the whoppers that came out of his lying mouth… He is totally clueless, as all those clueless idiots who voted for him…  Well, now we can clearly see that we got what we deserve…

@A. Emme Freedom for the price of widespread covert surveillance of every citizen. Show me how you put that in the context of a free society.

@tueksta I don’t think there’s such a thing as lying to serve a greater cause.  That’s called a delusion.  If you lie you are only serving yourself, no higher goal.  We need transparency & honest in this world.  We do not need politicians like Obama that lie to serve their own self-interests.  Don’t get me wrong I think Republicans & Democrats are equally guilty of this.
